Where we came from
Market Sports est. 1991
Market Sports was born in 1991 right here in Shoreditch. Taking residence in Old Spitalfields Market, the club catered for Londoners in search of more from their gym.

1991 - 2000
The Old Spitalfields Fruit MarketThe journey begins with three artificial grass pitches and a temporay cabin for changing rooms in a derelict building we now know as Spitalfields Market. We quickly grew to offer 6 indoor multi sport pitches covering football, netball, cricket & tennis, 25m pool, gymnasium and aerobics studio, badminton and volleyball courts plus a proper changing area for our members! We gave locals the chance to play 5 a side football in some of London’s first urban pitches, operating at the time probably the largest lunchtime football leagues in the country.

1994 - 1998
The City LidoOn a temporary site on Bishopsgate just outside Spitalfields Market we built an indoor 25m x 12m heated salt managed swimming pool. It was open to all the community and was a great success. In the four years the pool was open we had nearly half a million visitors.

2000 - 2003
The Bishopsgate GoodsyardAfter the regeneration of the market, redevelopment plans meant we had to pack up shop and moved to The Bishopsgate Goodsyard where we swapped the Market vibe for 19th Century railway arches. We transformed yet again and saved for our national heritage another derelict but stunning structure to provide great facilities for the local community & city workers. As the area built up around us and the need to move to allow for the building of the new railway line, we took one final move & landed in our current location on Bateman’s Row.

2003 - today
Batemans Row London EC2So we stopped being nomads and settled in our present site on Batemans Row in 2003 sadly without the pitches and courts. But what a fabulous club, including a 25m swimming pool. We then decided to develop a small group of Boutique style clubs in and around the City of London and bought and refurbished Slimjims in Broadgate in 2005 and The CityPoint Club in Moorgate in 2006 as well as building the Bankside Health Club behind Tate Modern which opened in 2008.
